Applications for ASPIRE traineeship now open

The Salisbury Museum is seeking a new Exhibition and Learning Assistant who will help to prepare for the display of John Constable’s Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows at the museum in the autumn of 2016.

This is an entry level role for a person with little or no experience of working in a museum and an opportunity for structured work-based training. You will have good research skills and an interest in nineteenth century British art.  You will be highly self-motivated, have excellent communication skills and a proven ability to think on your feet.  In addition, you will have good time management skills and a positive attitude towards all aspects of museum activity and be confident in working with people from a range of backgrounds.

One aspect of this role will focus on researching the content for the exhibition, including helping to developing the exhibition story. You will also help to develop and deliver the learning and outreach programme.  You will work closely with the museum’s Exhibitions Officer, Learning and Outreach Officer and Marketing and Admin Officer.

This is part of the ‘Aspire’ project, a partnership programme with Tate enabling audiences of all ages to enjoy and learn more about the work of John Constable by touring Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows 1831 to five UK institutions. Aspire is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Art Fund. The other partners are Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales; the National Galleries of Scotland and Colchester and Ipswich Museums.
