Festival of Archaeology

Thousands of people flocked to The Salisbury Museum on 18 and 19 July to visit the Festival of Archaeology.

The line up of talks and debates included Professor Alice Roberts, presenter of ‘Coast’ and ‘Ice Age Giants’, Dr Alex Langlands from the popular TV series recreating life on Edwardian, Victorian and Wartime farms. Julian Richards, Phil Harding and Cassie Newland were also on the talks programme.

The talks were incredibly well received – one visitor commenting that the speakers were ‘inspired communicators who also seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. I look forward to next year’s event and wonder how you will be able to ‘trump’ this year’s event!’

As well as the talks there was a show-ground of stands at the event, including re-enactors, heritage organisations and historical demonstrations. Highlights included archery demonstrations, a medieval blacksmith forging arrowheads, ancient music, prehistoric metal casting and have-a-go stonemasonry. Visitors said it was "Excellent, lots for children", "Amazing, so much to do" and "Beautifully laid out and so interesting"
