In 2021 our Community Curator will be leading on the delivery of a new Inter-Generational Oral Histories Project, across the Salisbury City Area, funded by the Salisbury Area Board.
We are seeking a freelance facilitator/coordinator with experience of overseeing projects and leading sessions with a variety of community participants. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside the Museum team as we explore and pilot a range of new approaches to community engagement as part of our work to re-develop our History of Salisbury Galleries. This project will involve many of the groups and settings we already support as well as developing new community relationships, and will span from Feb to Nov 2021, with concentrations of delivery April to early August and November.
Through this project we will bring groups of older and younger people together in dialogue to build relationships, gain skills and capture each other’s stories. The intergenerational workshops will result in 20 to 25 paired oral histories gathered by young participants interviewing their older counterparts, and vice versa. Towards the end of the project we will work with participants to create a digital presence for the recordings as a resource for the wider community.
The right candidate will be an excellent face-to-face communicator, with project management experience, who creates welcoming, inclusive and engaging environments. Understanding of Oral Histories, experience of intergenerational work and knowledge of the local area are also desirable
We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. Qualification for this role is assessed through relevant professional experience which we anticipate may come from the public, charitable or cultural sectors or from community work.
The team at Salisbury Museum is very excited to be embarking on this project with the support of the Salisbury Area Board and Wessex Museums Partnership, and hope that it will prove to be the start of an ongoing line of work.
You will find a full Job Description (including a project overview and how to apply) and an Equal Opportunites Monitoring Form, HERE
Application Deadline is Monday 25th Jan 2021 – 12 noon.
