This talk will examine the evolution of cremation during the Early to Middle Neolithic and how it became the dominant burial rite by the end of the Neolithic.  Wildly diverse locations were selected for the deposition of cremated remains but by far the most common form of deposition was in association with circular monuments.  Stonehenge, one of the largest cremation cemeteries, will be explored in conjunction with other sites in order to discuss who was buried at these monuments and where the individuals lived before death.

Just one of the programme of talks taking place during the Festival of Archaeology, 13 and 14 July 2019.
