Incorporating some of the most recent archaeological finds and archival research, this talk will examine the role of Old Sarum in three critical periods of its history. It will explore the evidence for immediate post-Roman occupation, and the various steps taken in Wessex to deal with the threat of Viking invasion in the first and second Viking Age. This will also be a chance to highlight some of the key findings from the 2019 excavations!

Just one of the programme of talks for the Festival of Archaeology, 13 and 14 July 2019.
