Walk – Salisbury to Old Sarum

A guided walk from the Medieval Cathedral and City of Salisbury to Old Sarum led by local Blue Badge Guide Margaret Smith. Travel back in time from the Medieval Cathedral and City of Salisbury to Old Sarum, the site of the first Cathedral and the Norman Castle. An enjoyable circular walk along the River Avon to Old Sarum and back, about 3 miles in total. The walk lasting approximately 3 hours will include interesting aspects of the history of Salisbury and Old Sarum along the way with a chance to enjoy the magnificent views of Salisbury from the ancient hillfort.

Please bring clothing suitable for the weather and sensible footwear, sun protection, drink and snacks as required.


Location: Meet at Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum, grid ref SU 141 294. The museum is situated within the Cathedral Close opposite the West Front of Salisbury Cathedral. There is no available parking at the museum, please use the cities Park and Ride facilities or the city centre car parks. The museum is a short walk (1.2 km) from the train station.
