In the 1930s Ashcombe House became the much loved home of artist and photographer  Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) who wrote after acquiring this oil painting, 'The picture ever since has been my favourite possession'.

Acquired with the financial assistance of the V&A Purchase Grant Fund and The Nati.onal Art Collections Fund.
