First World War Overall Dress

1914-1918

Made using a heavy cotton or canvas due to its hard-wearing nature, with a centre front panel and side fastening. Although mass produced, the smock is quite a smart design due to the neat collar, cuffs and lots of top stitching used throughout.

The name 'Nancy' is faintly pencilled onto the back of the garment, thought to delineate the owner, due to workers during the First World War wearing the same type of garments whilst working in the factories.
