Ladies Shoe

1730s

This shoe was found under the floorboard in the attic of The Old Dairy Cottage in Upper Woodford, Salisbury. Often a worn shoe would have been concealed in a building when it was built or altered. The shoe was thought to retain the spirit of the wearer and keep evil spirits away.
