1925

By Rex Whistler

Pencil, indian ink and watercolour on paper

Mural design for the proscenium arch wall at the Shadwell Highways boys' club in east London. Rex's first mural was undertaken with the support of Professor Henry Tonks at the Slade School of Art. Tonks was enthusiastic about mural painting and made funds available for Rex to work on this project with fellow student Mary Adshead.
