Sketchbook image: Palladian Bridge at Wilton House

1925

By Rex Whistler

Indian ink on paper

Drawn on his first visit to Edith Olivier who lived at the Daye House on the Wilton Estate. Laurence Whistler added a note at the bottom in pencil: 'EO's Journal, 31 May 25 '...returned to find him drawing the Palladian Bridge from memory. He walked to see it...'. In typical Rex fashion a grotesque cartoon has been added to the same sheet.
