Fashioning Our Future

Fashioning Our Future

Fashioning Our Future will enable young people to share their own perspectives by co-curating fashion exhibitions which will go on show at The Salisbury Museum, Blandford Fashion Museum and Southampton City Art Gallery. Young people will also plan and take part in a series of fashion workshops and events.

Alongside this, the storage of the fashion collection at the museum will be transformed, and a new study room created. Volunteers will work with the project team to achieve this, helping to make sure the collection is protected, valued and much more accessible. They will help research the collection, sharing their knowledge and textile skills with young people, including young carers. Fashioning Our Future is made possible with funding received from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. We are currently running workshops and after school sessions, to find out more and get involved contact Katy England at The Salisbury Museum katyengland@salisburymuseum.org.uk

The project will enable us to build on the work we have been doing with the fashion collection over the last few years, most recently with Fashioning Our World, where young people discovered the hidden stories of sustainability found in collections of historical clothes and collections, enabling them to think differently about the clothes we wear now and make positive changes for a more sustainable fashion future.

The Fashioning Our World exhibition was held at The Salisbury Museum 10 February  - 12 May 2024 and featured  historical items never displayed before with stories of sustainability, alongside contemporary creations by famous designers.
