Buried: A talk by Professor Alice Roberts followed by book-signing

Saturday, July 23, 2022

In this talk, Alice Roberts will introduce her new book Buried, shedding fresh light on how people lived – by examining stories of the dead.

Talk 4pm in the Lecture Hall, followed by book signing

Funerary rituals show us what people thought about mortality, loss and what came next. From Roman cremations and graveside feasts, to deviant burials with heads rearranged, from richly furnished Anglo-Saxon graves to the first Christian burial grounds in Wales, they provide an alternative history of the first millennium in Britain.
In this talk, Professor Alice Roberts will introduce her new book Buried which picks up where Ancestors left off – starting with the Romans, then the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. Combining archaeological finds with DNA research and written history, she will shed fresh light on how people lived – by examining the stories of the dead.
Alice will be signing copies of her new book after the talk.
Pre-booking strongly advised as this event is expected to sell-out – all tickets £20
Part of this year’s Festival of Archaeology at The Salisbury Museum.
