Coughs and Sneezes Coronavirus and the Common Cold Unit – ONLINE Talk by Lesley Self

Thursday, February 16, 2023

A fascinating look at The Common Cold Unit through stories and objects held in the historical archives at the Salisbury District Hospital.

During a 40 minute online presentation, by Lesley Self of ArtCare, you will get to know about items in our archives including photographs, documents, books, objects and stories relating to the Harvard Hospital (Common Cold Unit) formerly in Harnham.

We present an inside look at our historical collections with a focus on one of the largest clinical studies here in Salisbury. 10,000+ volunteers took part in the study from 1940s – 1990s.

ArtCare’s historic healthcare collections ranges from the 1760’s to present day and includes the General Infirmary, Odstock Hospital and many other sites around Salisbury. The artefacts and archives provide a fascinating insight into medicine, healthcare and social history of the city for the past 250 years.
