LANDSCAPE OPEN 2026
Salisbury Museum is surrounded by landscapes and monuments which have inspired generations of artists. Given this importance, it seems appropriate that the museum is the setting for an open competition that celebrates the evolving relationship that artists have towards the landscape.
Submissions are now closed. The Landscape Open 2026 received an outstanding response, with over 2,400 artwork submissions from more than 1,200 artists across 43 countries. Our selection panel has chosen 83 works to exhibit at the museum this autumn.
Artists of any medium were invited to submit work that explored, depicted, or challenged the theme of landscape. We welcomed submissions from the UK and internationally, and were delighted by the global reach of the competition.
The selected artworks will be on display at The Salisbury Museum from 17 October 2026 until 31 January 2027. The winning artist will receive £1,000 and a solo exhibition at Salisbury Museum. One shortlisted artist will receive a fully-funded three-week residency placement at the NG Art Creative Residency in Provence. Students are also eligible for a Student Mentoring Prize, while all entrants can compete for the People’s Choice Award.
Selection Panel:
Adrian Green, Director of Salisbury Museum: “The return of the Landscape Open in 2026 has far exceeded our expectations. Last year proved that artists around the world are hungry to engage with this subject and to be part of what we’re building here at the Salisbury Museum. To receive over 2,400 submissions this year demonstrates that the competition has already become established as a significant platform for contemporary landscape art.”
