Rex Whistler: The Artist and His Patrons – Talk by Nikki Frater

Thursday, May 16, 2024

Rex Whistler’s patrons included many eminent figures in the 1920s and 30s, including Lord and Lady Mountbatten, Sir Malcolm Bullock MP, the 6th Marquess and Marchioness of Anglesey and Maud Russell at Mottisfont.

This talk is based on the research carried out by Nikki Frater for her PhD on Rex which was completed in 2015. Her work furthered our knowledge of Whistler by placing him in context with his contemporaries and providing a more comprehensive account of a creative life that was contingent on commissions, from both commercial and private patrons.

This is a fundraising talk for Salisbury Museum (registered charity no 289850)
