Summer Discovery Day ~ Living History with ‘The Outside’

Tuesday, August 1, 2023

‘The Outside’ are experts in all things fabric, and their knowledge stretches far, far back in time.

Colourful potions made from traditional roots and herbs, seething in cauldrons stirred with wands. Whirling drop spindles, spinning wool into a yarn, to be braided or woven into a cloth that might determine a person’s fate… Are there time travelling witches inhabiting the museum garden for the ancient feast day of Lammas, or simply practitioners of the ancient crafts of dyeing with plant dyes, spinning and weaving on a warp weighted loom? Come and visit us to find out, learn about the dye plants and have a go at spinning, weaving or braiding.

If you like history, and you like trying your hand at crafts from the past, this is the day out for you!
