Roy Wilde was a career soldier who took up archaeology and landscape painting in later life. Having spent much of his career located near, or exercising upon, Salisbury Plain he developed a fascination for the contrasting landscapes of open downland, its ancient features and the variety of the sheltered valleys, with their churches. A watercolourist by logistic necessity, in recent years he has ventured into oils and, most recently acrylics. His exhibition reflects this exploration, including the utility of acrylics to portray archaeological artefacts from the Museum’s collection.
