How to get involved:
There are 2 pathways to participating in a Well-City Salisbury course: referral and self-referral. Both options involve completing a project enrolment form. We can help you with this.
Referral: We primarily use a social prescribing model where participants are referred/signposted on a course by their GP practice, support organisations or, link worker for example.
If you are currently being supported in the community this may be the best route for you.
Self-Referral: We also welcome self-referrals. If you wish to self-refer, please carefully review the course descriptions and participation criteria to ensure the course is the right fit for you.
Referral forms can be found on our website, with additional formats provided upon request.
Join Salisbury Museum and local ceramicist Jane Staniland to explore ancient pot making techniques including coil pots, pinch pots and slab pots – and explore mark-making, decorative and glazing techniques.
Be inspired by the new Ceramics Gallery and Wessex Gallery of archaeology at the museum – learn about pottery production from pre-history to the medieval period and have the rare opportunity to handle and study ceramic artefacts from the stores. The course will also tie into the museum’s major exhibition of the sculptor Elisabeth Frink.
Access information:
This course will suit all abilities. The studio where the course will take place is fully accessible. The new Ceramics Gallery at Salisbury Museum is located on the first floor of the museum and is not accessible for wheelchair users – but alternative access will be provided if needed.
About Well-City Salisbury
Well-City Salisbury is a partnership project supporting people with low to moderate mental health needs such as anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, and feelings of social isolation.
Delivered across the Salisbury area, the project is designed to support individuals on their journey to wellbeing through creative courses and opportunities. Taking part in a Well-City Salisbury course will enable moments of learning, discovery, curiosity, and creativity, all of which are known to have beneficial effects on mental health.
There are four partner organisations that make up the Well-City Salisbury partnership: ArtCare at Salisbury District Hospital, Wiltshire Creative, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Wessex Archaeology. Well-City Salisbury is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund for three years.
In addition to the project partners, we also work on a guest delivery partnership model, where we collaborate with other local organisations to deliver courses. We are delighted to welcome Salisbury Museum back to the project to deliver, Inspired by the past: pot making with Salisbury Museum.
Each project year, Well-City Salisbury offers 8, 10x week creative courses. Courses are free to attend, with all resources and refreshments provided. The courses are led by an experienced facilitator and an artist. Courses are available for both adults (over 20s) and young adults (18-24).
What happens next:
We will carefully review each submitted enrolment form to ensure we can meet each participant’s needs and that we are providing opportunities to those who may benefit the most.
Spaces are limited and participants will be notified of the outcome no later than 4 weeks before the course start date. Due to high demand, people can take part in a maximum of 2 creative courses per project year. This helps ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the programme.
Aside from our courses there are other ways we can support your wellbeing journey through other opportunities within Well-City Salisbury and the wider community. These might include engaging with other project opportunities such as personal projects, art club and volunteering.
